Cover Ups

Sometimes called tattoo repair, cover-up tattoos are becoming increasingly popular in today’s society. Many people have realized that it was okay they decided to put their exes name on their arm, because you have this friend who has a cousin whose baby brother is an exceptional artist and drew up this really cool tribal design to go over it. Oh how you love the way the tribal flows with the curves in the letters. There’s absolutely nothing perfect about cover ups.

There are 3 major rules you must follow when getting a cover up:
Work on a tattoo that is fully healed and not badly scarred.
Change the focal point location. Draw their eyes AWAY from the old tattoo.
The new tattoo must be at least 50% larger than the old one.
Follow these rules and hopefully you too will soon forget what’s her name was even there. You can find lots of ideas and talk to actually tattoo artists and consultants about cover ups on certain websites like HYPERLINK "http://www.tattooartists.org" www.tattooartists.org or HYPERLINK "http://www.dragonflyink.com" www.dragonflyink.com.

Also available online and in certain tattoo shops you can find cover up kits. These kits aren’t intended to permanently remove your tattoo. Just for the night or a few hours. They're perfect for you wedding day, job interviews or any special day. Usually costing under $25.00 the kits come completely supplied with powders, brushes, sponges and instructions to help you get rid of your tattoo for a while. Websites like HYPERLINK "http://www.theweddingshop.theknot.com" www.theweddingshop.theknot.com sell cover up kits and can have them to your door the next day.

I spoke with a friend who recently had previous artwork covered up. He had his ex-wife’s name on his upper arm and covered it with a gigantic tribal design. The design looks really cool. I couldn’t tell what or where the name was. He said it cost around $300, but after seeing the size of the new tattoo I could see why. He warns cover-ups are addictive, like getting the originals put on. I asked him since he got his cover up done if it helped him make future tattoo decisions easier and he replied “Well, if I don’t like it, I can always cover it up later.” Besides giving more closure to the past relationship he added, “I’m just wiping the slate clean Ape.”
