Cryosurgery Tattoo Removal

This method has been around for some time now. Cryosurgery isn’t the least painful way to go, but it is cheaper and less painful on your pockets. It’s described as a freezing method, where the skin or targeted area is sprayed with liquid nitrogen to freeze it. Then a light is used to cause a peeling to take place. After reading all about this method I came to the conclusion that it’s basically like trying to remove a hickie from your neck. Remember freezing a spoon for a few minutes then applying the spoon to your hickie and rubbing it over and over? Cryosurgery is similar to that, only done in an office by a professional. Moderate freezes cause blistering and a hard freeze causes scabbing, so be aware of which one your doctor will be doing. The purpose of the freeze is to destroy the tattooed tissue. Several sessions will be required; however there isn’t a lot of bleeding. Side effects include bleeding at the freeze site, blistering, edema and pain. Rare side effects include hair loss and hydro-pigmentation. Unfortunately after your tattoo is successfully removed, most people find little white spots that are flat, but permanent.

Anyone who wants this method done is a fine candidate. Of course the final say is with your doctor, but I couldn’t find anyone who couldn’t get it done because they had skin conditions, etc. This method was the way to go before lasers came along. It was the most effective, most affordable and most popular. I couldn’t find any costs, but if I had to guess, I’d say it’s cheaper than lasers, so less than a thousand bucks. After your treatment, the doctor will tell you to apply ointment once or twice daily and to cover it up with a Scooby-Doo Band-Aid. Okay, the doctor didn’t say Scooby was necessary to heal, but you get the point. You can wash your skin as normal, and you may apply makeup if you want. Swelling and redness should only last a couple hours after the treatment, along with the burning and stinging feeling from the liquid nitrogen. So take a nap and when you wake up you should be as good as new.
